A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift/ forehead surgery, is meant to lift your brow line and create a more youthful forehead appearance. It is meant to correct sagging brows and improve the horizontal lines and furrows that can make your face appear angered, sad, discouraged or tired. This procedure can also remedy a fleshy brow or one that is naturally lined, often giving your face a severe or aggressive look.
Aging is inevitable and the effects of aging on your face can be the hardest to control. Many times, your forehead and eyebrows can be the first areas to show the signs of aging. Environmental damage from the sun, pollution, wind and the pull of gravity all affect your face. As the aging process advances, collagen-producing cells diminish and the long-term effects of gravity cause underlying muscle to stretch, making your brow prone to sagging and wrinkles. In some more significant cases, a drooping brow can even negatively affect a person’s vision.
An aging forehead and brow line creates an appearance much older than you are. Your outward appearance does not accurately reflect how you feel. This disconnect in your emotional mood and outward appearance can be off-putting and negatively impact your social interactions.
Due to these age related changes, many people turn to a surgical procedure known as a brow lift, to restore confidence in their appearance.
- Reduce wrinkles and furrowed lines that run on the forehead, the nose bridge and between the eyes
- Improve the appearance of frown lines around the eyebrows
- Raise lowered/sagging eyebrows to a more anatomically correct and visually pleasing position
- Creating a forehead and brow line that conveys a youthful, refreshed and alert appearance
Types of Brow Lifts
The main difference in options for brow lifts consists of the placement of the incision. At Omni, we perform two types of brow lifts, using the most up to date surgical procedures and techniques: the endoscopic brow lift and the browpexy.
Endoscopic Brow Lift
The endoscopic brow lift is the most common type of procedure. The lift requires 5 small incisions hidden in the scalp and severing the muscles between the brows used for expression. The combination of tightening and relaxing smooths the forehead, trimming years and overly pronounced expression from your face. The small incisions are created just behind the hairline for minimal scarring. An endoscope (a thin tube with a camera on the end) is used during the surgery to guide the surgeon and allow for a less invasive approach. Special tools are used through the small incisions to adjust and correct for muscle and tissue changes. The procedure corrects the sources of furrows and creases over the forehead.
The endoscopic approach to a brow lift is a more modern surgical technique, as older surgeries required a full incision along the hairline. This is a less invasive procedure that has less risk of numbness and scarring and leads to faster recovery.
The browpexy is a less invasive and subtler surgical procedure to correct for brow sagging. The browpexy is performed most often in combination with an eyelid lift (upper blepharoplasty). This brow lift procedure returns the eyebrows to an anatomical and appealing location on the face, just above the rim of the orbital bone.
The browpexy is most commonly performed through an incision on the eyelid, at the same time a blepharoplasty is performed. The browpexy can also be done through a small incision above the eyebrow, if no blepharoplasty is done concurrently. The underside of the brow is attached to the lining of the orbital bone. This operation does not create as significant of a change as an endoscopic brow lift, but may be appropriate for individuals who only need a minimal brow lift or are looking to stabilize their brows from further lowering.
What to Expect from Brow Lift
Prior to your surgery, you will meet with our expert medical physician to discuss your goals and expected outcomes. Our plastic and reconstructive surgeon brings years of experience and quality patient care. It is natural to feel some anxiety before undergoing any surgical procedure, so be sure to discuss these feelings and ask any questions you may have. At OMNI, our goal is to provide excellent surgical outcomes with superior patient care and consideration.
The Brow Lift Process
A brow lift usually takes 1-2 hours to perform and is typically done under general anesthesia. After your procedure is completed, the surgical team may tape your forehead and loosely wrap your head to minimize bruising and swelling. You may have a thin drain tube to remove any blood or fluid from collecting under the skin. Our surgical team will give you specific instructions to care for your surgical sites and provide you with any needed pain medications. You will keep your head slightly elevated and avoid any vigorous physical activity during your healing process. Your main goal will be to keep the incision sites clean and follow your surgeon’s instructions so that your body can heal. For most clients, recovery will take about two weeks.
Brow Lift Results
Remarkably, the results of your surgery can be seen immediately. Even better, the results will continue to improve over time, as the surgical swelling will resolve and incision lines will fade. The final results of your brow lift will be revealed over the course of several months.
